Going Green for March

March 19th is the first day of Spring, flowers are blooming, things are beginning to warm up and summer is on the horizon. With the change of season we also have a new crop of fresh vegetables and produce hitting the shelves. Fresh asparagus, crunchy lettuce, crisp green beans, arugula, spinach and artichokes are just some of the green veggies that are in season this time of year.

Now that we are past the holidays and chilly weather, we begin to look ahead with the Spring Season as the natural world around us is giving birth to a new season and restoring life back to a fresh state of being. Some people mark this time with things like 'Spring Cleaning' getting rid of any unnecessary items in the home or at work, re-organizing and refreshing your bubble. If you are looking for a way to re-vitalize your diet, adding green vegetables into your routine is a great way to invite healthier habits into your lifestyle for the long haul.

Leafy greens have an abundance of vitamins and minerals, not to mention fiber. Some of my favorites include:

Spinach- great source of Folate, Vitamin K and Vitamin A

Arugula- contain Vitamin B9 and Vitamin K

Green Beans- rich in Vitamin K, Carotenoids and Iron

Kiwis- contain Vitamin K, C, E , Folate and Potassium

Avocados- good source of Vitamins C, E, K, B6, Niacin, Magnesium, Lutein

Leafy green vegetables are an important part of a healthy, balanced diet. By adding a few extra greens into your daily routine, you can get started with healthier habits right away for a brighter future.
